New patio doors on backside of the garage

Hi folks, we have just moved to our house. It’s had various alterations over the years.

In 1999 the garage was extended. it adjoins the garden and there’s a playroom at the side with patio doors onto our garden.. Trouble is they are rather small. I want to enlarge them. Do you think I’d need to ask permission to put a new larger set in?

New and alterations to windows/doors would normally be covered by Permitted Development. However, PD relates to the original house so in that respect, the alterations would more than likely require some form of Planning application. As it’s also a structural alteration, it will require a Building Regulation application. You can find out more here...
