New radiator valves - no lock shield?

Hi guys,

I've bought this vertical double radiator and these radiator valves.

I'm confused as there's no lockshield - it's basically 2x regular valves with 1 of them has the TRV fitted on top of it. When I look inside the valve, one side is closed off with a hole inside it. The other side is fully opened. I suspect the hole-side should be at radiator side, however, with the fitment of them being corner fitment and going into the wall behind, one of them needs to have the open-side to be radiator side.

I assume the regular valve is in lieu of a lock shield and can just be adjusted?

TIA, e_p

No, they are standard TRV valves, some TRV valves do have one side of the valve body with what looks like a disc with a hole drilled in it. The valve with the plain cap (decorators cap) is obviously to act as a lockshied but it won't in the true sense. A lockshield shouldn't be easy to manually adjust without some some of tool. Is the one with the plain cap just like the TRV valve, just without the head on it? If so they are kind of cheating, obviously cheaper for them just to get the one type of valve and one of them ships with a decorators cap.

Can I ask why a designer tube radiator? I hope it's just for the look as it really won't replace a standard convecting radiator in the way it heats the space, if the space is any bigger than say a typical single bedroom.

These things are sold on looks.
You need to spend £££s to get one that also performs as a decent emitter!

I thought the valve with the cap on worked as a lockshield by using an allen key ?
That's how mine work.

And that's what should be.
A lot of these outlets are constantly looking for cheaper ways to sell stuff not fit for purpose.

Thanks for the reply, confirming what I thought.

I was thinking of calling up and returning them. I’m thinking this one looks better.

That’s what I was trying to convey which thankfully you understood and managed to say a lot better. They are the exact same - and both have the disc with a hole in them, also both on the same side which would mean that due to mirroring the radiator then one would have the holes disc next to the radiator side and the other valve would be the opposite - this seems very strange to me as there’s a clear difference between each side of the valve’s inner mechanism.

Can I ask why a designer tube radiator?

The area for it is in the (new) living room: I knocked through a small room which sat between the (small) living room and (tiny) kitchen and it’s now an open space. It is replacing a small single panel radiator which was previously in the box room. Due to the new layout it’ll be sitting between a window and patio door, so basically utilising the space better. Also, as mentioned, for aesthetic. I appreciate it won’t heat more than another similarly sized radiator but it’s not replacing a like-for-like. I’m hoping the space-saving aspect will be highly beneficial also, as the house is small!

Sorry. It's the Danfoss RAS C2, try a search. There are a few in the RAS range, I think they all have the neat lockshield.

Curiously, the set of TRV plus Lockshield seems to be cheaper than TRV alone. Something to do with high volume sales, I expect.
