how much lower than the water level in the expansion tank do they need to be? is there a standard figure?
i will have to measure exactly as it's occurred to me that there might not be much in it.

If your boiler is suitable convert to a sealed system and get rid of the tank. You can then put rads anywhere you like.
 
not mine so won't be doing that. just doing a favour for a friend. don't think he wants to spend any more money at the moment, but the attic conversion is unheated so needs sorting.

i have found a figure of 1m mentioned in other posts. i was searching for "attic" before, but found them using "loft"
 
Yes, 1m is usually the minimum height needed from the tops of the rads (or the highest point in the pipe work) to the bottom of the f&e tank.

not a lot extra cost wise and woth the piece of mind from getting rid of one potential leak sourcde.
