New skim for old wall

Hi,

I've removed a skim which was coming away along with old wallpaper from a hallway in a 1930's house.

I'm left with what I *think* is lime plaster (as it has hairs in it) over lath.

Can anyone suggest how to apply a new skim? What should I use? I'm assuming PVA under regular multifinish isn't a good way to deal with this old style plaster?

If the plaster left on the wall is sound, I would give it a clean off to remove any dust/loose bits, brush water over the wall to dampen it down, brush on pva, and while it's still wet/tacky, put on a couple of "very tight" coats of Bonding plaster first, just to give you a better surface to finish onto. Let the bonding set, and "then" put on your multi finish as per normal,,, finish the whole process the same day if you can,, much easier..... If the wall has a lot of suction, or you're a bit unsure,,, clean/wet the wall as said earlier, pva, (which will kill any suction) and leave it 'till the following day,,, then PVA again, and plaster (multi finish) directly onto the wet/tacky pva.
