Hi

Last couple of weeks I had 9mm ply subfloor fitted and then amtico laid.

The ply was fitted over existing floorboards 1960s house and floorboards were squeaking in parts before. The ply was screwed down and lots of screws however I have started to notice in a couple areas squeaking.

I didn’t think this would happen, is it something to worry about as amtico is obviously glued down or to be expected as older house?

There have been a few botched jobs of the builder hence me asking, but the amtico fitter was happy with the subfloor at the time of install.

Thanks

A old house you will get the odd squeak in floorboards. This shown of been told to you before it was fitted. We say we can get a joiner in to secure every floorboard down. But most say crack on.

I thought the ply 9mm over the top of even poor conditions floorboards would stop the squeak or so I was lead to believe. I did think at the time that didn’t sound right.

So just part of having an older house and squeaky floors doesn’t matter what you do unless you fix the floorboards themselves the problem will be there?

It’s not the ply it’s the boards. Well it should be. Did he fix the ply down every 6” on the plywood centres and every 4” on edges ?

are your floorboards tongue and groove ?

Yeah to tongue and groove floorboards but some have been lifted and cut over the years and recently from rewire and central heating all screwed back down but floor was squeaking.

Not sure on the ply install but there looked to be a lot for screws down on it when I seen it.

attached some photos not sure it that helps

It’s the T&G floorboards rubbing mate. They are a nightmare. All the tongues need cutting off before you do the plywood.

In that case too late to fix the boards now. Will have to live with the squeaking
