New summerhouse electrics help!

That electrician did you no favours.

If he had given you best advice, he would have advised changing the CU to give you:

a) room for expansion

b) RCD protection, at least to some of the circuits

c) a board that is not grossly overloaded

Did not relalise it was so bad?

Unfortunately most people think that if the lights and appliances work then the installation is OK and therefore is also safe.

Dangerously too many "electricians" have a similar attitude which has resulted in many installations that work but are at best far from ideal and at worst dangerous. Their customers see that things work as expected, pay the bill and the "electrician" goes to the next un-suspecting customer leaving a potentially dangerous situation behind.

Low cost often means low quality.

"electricians" with quotation marks = cowboys and similar.

d) An MCB for the shower circuit which is not too small...

Did not think it would be hundreds of pounds for a light and a few sockets in a summerhouse![/cuote]

The CU does need sorting out.

But even if you take that out of the picture how much did you think it would cost for an electrician to run the armoured cable, install the CU and final circuits in the summerhouse, do all of the testing and certification?

It's got to be into the hundreds, even if only between 1 & 2, however it's done....
