That may depend on the connections available at the other end of the cable.
For a simple solution, you could consider something like a battery operated Nest Thermostat E?
i have managed to power the thermostat via a wire connected to a plug done by a friend but thye heating seems to be on all time

It on a a fuse switch when I turn that switch off it power of the whole lot programmer and all

sorry got it wrong my bad sorry been a long day he wired it into the fuse switch which controlees the programmer etc

so all good now i have got all working now power comes from a fused spure on wall under thermostat which turns off all systems
