new tile over old tile

Hello

I need to re-tile bathroom walls. The current tiles are in good order however they are outdated. Is it a good idea to use the new tiles over the current tiles? What would I need to consider and would this last as long- seriously these tiles have been around since the year dot....

Any suggestions welcome!
