i am adding a new toilet/shower to a downstairs room, i have taken advice and it has been suggested to dig a pit in floor, locate soil which should be easy. add a t junction and then run new loo/shower into this with a small sub stack. is this a diy job or should i just dig the pit myself, expose the soil and then call a plumber in?

The answer to your question is that it is entirely up to you.
You need to inform Building Control of your intention to change the use of this room though.
