Have two large sized centre-pivot windows in our new extension. Bought a pole which arrived today. When I open the window - it immediately closes due to the weight of the window around the pivot. Seems to be with both windows. Any ideas?

There should be screws through the pivotal points of the hinges, these could be under caps which will require prising off. With these screws tightened try them first before replacing the caps...pinenot :)

Thanks - is this something I should be able to do (non-DIY person) or is it a job for a window fitter?

It should be a job you could do yourself, just make sure of your own safety if it's above you...pinenot :)

OK, got a little confused on the tightening of central screw - sorry.
The Velux you have is presumably the GGU going from the pics. and as such should open (and stay in place) anywhere between 19deg - 90deg. The hinges have friction springs built in to accommodate this either yours are not set/connected properly or are faulty. First off I would contact the Velux customer service support team - http://www.velux.co.uk/aboutvelux/velux_gb/contact - and ask them to advise. If they suggest they have not bean installed correctly, contact whoever is responsible for the new extension. If there was a main contractor - it's them who are responsible. If however you managed the contract yourself or via an agent (Architect, Surveyor Etc.) - contact with the fitter/Co should be via them. Anything otherwise, come back here along with any advise or instructions Velux has provided, we can surely help...pinenot :)

If you ring Velux tell them your problem and they will send you some more friction springs.
