I would like to know if I am allowed to install a new window into my lounge wall without seeking any permission from the council? The new window will not overlook anyone as I live on the end of an estate with no other house likely to built to our side elevation.

Some councils don't consider that development so don't need permission but not all! Additionally any new window requiring a lintel will now need building regs approval. You could just do it and keep your fingers crossed but it could complicate things if you admit it when you come to sell.
