New windows, poor fitting…..

Hey guys,

Wonder if you can take a look at my pics and give me your opinion of the fitting of them.

They were fitted almost a year ago, and we've been waiting and waiting for them to decide if they're going to do anything about it or not!

Hopefully you'll see from the pics, but i don't think they fit properly, the top disappear into the cavity, so theres almost no frame along the top.
The side look a bit short…
And the way they've been fitted….
Our old windows had timber frames… they foamed them into the cavities, then foamed the new windows to that, and then screwed…









Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thats pretty standard fitting I'm afraid.

Was it a large company or small local? Im guessing local as the larger firms probably wouldn't have even put any foam in there.

Wood in the cavity to fix to is pretty standard, Ideally a bit of DPC should also be put in but very few bother.

Not much that could be done about the head of the frame as the plaster at the top dips down in the middle, You could have it ripped off and re-plastered straight but that wouldn't be the window company's fault.

Width size dosent look too bad, I have seen window much smaller than that!
As you need to be able to get the window into the aperture without ripping off all the plaster or render it has to be made a little slack on either the width or the height (sometimes both). We also have to take an educated guess of what will be in behind the old frame and how deep in it gos.

In an ideal world we would rip the windows out take super accurate measurements and then come back several weeks later once the windows were made. Unfortunately most customers frown on living without any windows for several weeks.

I'm going to brutally honest and upset everyone here.

They could have been measured a lot better, if it takes knocking off a bit of plaster or render to get a proper measurement then that's what it takes. A few add ons to make up the gaps and neatly trimmed or replastered.

BUT

This all cost money and people don't want to pay for someone spending an hour of their time measuring, pay for the extra plastic and trims, pay for a plasterer because window fitters aren't plasterers.
And people don't like the extra trims or having their render knocked off or having a window that doesn't fit properly.

Bottom line, if that was my house I wouldn't be happy but if that was my house it wouldn't look anything like that.
