Looking to replace all the windows in our house (10 in all) and have had 2 quotes, one from a local company with lots of recommendations for £5,500 fitting Liniar windows, and another from Homeglaze (Chigwell company with lots of good reviews on Which and checkatrade) for £7,500 for Koemmerling windows.

The Koemmerling windows have yale blade locks and are a bit more 'flashy', but they're both A rated so is it really worth the extra 2 grand? Have Liniar windows got a better reputation now? We are having a hard time making a decision! Any help gratefully received!

Most profiles are much of a muchness now including liniar and kommerling, both decent systems so don't get bogged down with 'theirs has a better lock' or 'that sculptured profile looks better' because you'll make yourself ill with the 1001 options you can have, it's good that your looking at reviews but try if you can to have a look at a recent installation if possible, I /we say this because it's all in the fitting, if poss speak with the homeowners about the experience, were there any hiccups and if so how were they resolved, we're the fitters tidy, did they do a good job, have the 2 companies got a Facebook page, check comments from people who've had said companies in their houses. A middle of the road window fitted properly is better than a top top quality window that's been chucked in, the most expensive quote won't necessarily mean they are fitted well either.

Check both companies are either FENSA or CERTASS registered, this is for your final sign off certificate, another thing to ask for that's just recently come in is the MTC requirement, ask if the fitter/'s hold an MTC card, at least one fitter on site has to hold the card, this is mine, it should look like this and can be verified on the MTC website by typing in the card number...

My pleasure, if you want to talk windows you've come to the right forum, full of tradesman who actually do the job at the sharp end not office bods who've never stepped foot on site before, there's a fair few fitters in this section as well
