My daughter has recently purchase a house which unfortunately has been a little botched. The current consumer unit uses three fuses 1 x 6amp and 2 x 16amp. what worries me is that the electric shower appears to have been wired directly into the 16amp ring main fuse. Surely this is not right?

I am about to fit a new Wylex consumer unit.

Where should the consumer unit earth be connected?
The tails from the meter are around 1.5 metres long they come through the wall and into the current consumer unit but i cannot see where the earth is attached.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

If it seems like if its been botched, it could do with someone looking over it and seeing what needs sorting out, ring final circuits are normally wired to 32A breakers, it could be that you just have some 2.5mm² radial circuits (seeing 2 cables at breaker isn't enough to say that its a ring final)

Where the earth goes depends on the earthing system in use, take a pic of the cutout, metering and board and one of use might be able to tell you

But no offence, I'm not sure you sound competant to do this work :( ,a board change, expecially where there is a history of botched work is not just a simple swap the wires over job... or you could end up creating something thats little better (or even worse) than what you have at the moment, its also notifiable to your local building control department
