I'm a tradesman myself and have not hired a builder before.

Were looking to have a loft conversion and kitchen extension.

As a heating engineer/ plumber I will do the plumbing and heating myself
( one builder who quoted has already moaned about this)

Would it be out of order for me to get my own electrician and kitchen fitter and just hire the builder for the steel, roof and chippie work.

Do you think this is likely to cause problems, and should I just let the builder bring in his own team for the whole project.

Any thoughts.

There's a chap down your way, Leicester If memory serves, he project manages, hires trades etc. you bye the materials (advised as required via the project manager) properly managed job, good price and professionalism expressed to all parties. You could do well trying it out, I will try getting his name from my daughter if you want, she worked with his daughter in the R.A.F...pinenot :)
