Newbie self employed needs estimate

Hi can you ps help me. I have just gone self employed in the building game and have a vast knowledge about all aspects of Woodwork and Joinery but do not have a clue on job prices! I dont want to be over charging and of course do not want to under charge. The job i need to price is to replace 2 new firedoors (inc hinges/hardware etc) and to put Intumescent strips (smoke strips) around 5 other doors which needs to be routed by 2mm all around and theng rehung. I will also be putting on fireproof door stops/strips on all the frames. Can any of you experianced guys tell me what i should be charging for this work ps? Many thanks in advance

Hello wannabgeek. Fitting firedoors is a lot more diffucult than your standard door. You must comply with regulations and there needs to be a minimum 2mm gap around both sides and also along the top of door/s. Its too hard to give you an exact estimate as we do not know the dimensions. I can charge upto double for firedoors, depending on requirements. The cheapest i would charge per FD6O door would be £150. That would include fitment of Intumescent strip and re hanging. Double doors would be more and more importantly it depends how much a door needs to be trimmed. hope this helps Dory

ringup some local chippys in your area and go with the middle quote-roughly

Easiest way is to base prices on a day rate.

Work out how much you want/need per day and then think about how long the work will take you - and always round up

But you need to know what a standard day rate is in your locality to avoid over-pricing
