Nice simple one - waste pipework

Hi,

I'm just about to install some waste pipework from my washing machine standpipe to the outside and to a drain. The white plastic pipe shouldn't be used outside as it will harden and crack under UV from the Sun. Is that right? Do I need to change to the grey pipe once the waste pipe exits outside?

Thanks :)

If you use ABS plastic it will age, but after many years. You could always paint it. Alternatively pay little extra and get MuPVC pipe which is good for direct sunlight. Most soil pipe is MuPVC by default :)

They wouldn't sell white waste pipe if it was unsuitable for outside.

You are worrying unduly.

Sunlight affects most plastics sooner or later. When or if it does during the lifetime of the pipe just paint it and the paint will take the hammer. The slightly eroded surface will then give it something to adhere to
