I've just bought a three storey mid terrace house (c1875) & I want to get into the loft to lay insulation but there is no loft hatch. Upper rooms have high ceilings but can be accessed with large step ladders.
How do I go about installing a loft hatch and what should I be watching out for? Is it just a case of chopping a hole out!?
Cheers for any info.

you need to check first that someone dos'nt have a flying freehold/leasehold

in other words you need to check its your roof space and not someone elses

cut a piece out of the ceiling joist then trim it up. easy.

tough luck if you hit a ceiling binder though.
