Hi

A colleague is having a house built at the moment by a house building firm. Their up second lift and have not installed any cavity wall insulation.

When questioned, he was told it would be put in afterwards. Is this usual, and acceptable? It looks like a 150-200mm cavity and I would have expected bats to be installed as they go.

This is a firm who charge £70 for "upgrading" from EACH single to double socket, of which there are plenty of the former.

It's quite possible that they are going to use blown insulation once the house is constructed, but as Tony says, they should be following the plans.

If this is a house builder, then the plans are typically generic and the details can vary depending on what the builder wants to use or if he negotiates better prices for certain things. All he will do is refer to a different accredited detail in the completion pack.

OK we checked the plans (colleague had photo) and yes it does stipulate blown knauf insulation.

Thanks for the replies.

As said, not uncommon to blow insulation in afterwards. I'd be interested to know the full makeup of the cavity wall, if you have it.
