I was wondering if anyone can give advice about a promlem that I am having with my heating. As it will be hard to get a plumber out over xmas it looks as if we are going to have a cold one !

We had a new Worcester Boiler. The hot water works find but we have no central heating unless the hot water it turned on, and water is below temperature. So to get the heating on I have to run the hot tap until the boiler comes on to heat the hot water. If the CH is also turned on they both heat up together, until the HW water reaches temperature.

I have a new room stat and controller. The controller is a drayton Lifestyle LP522. I have noticed that there are ony 5 wires to this but the wiring diagram shows 6. Terminal 2 (CW off is unused). This was replaced last year.

I wonder if this is a faulty 3 way valve (Current one a Tower MP3 22C), which I could replace if it were just a matter of like for like with same wiring, and if I can get one on Christmas eve. Do not want all the fuss of draining down the system etc if this unlikly to be the case. Can anyone suggest how I can work out what what to do? :)

hi dave

a mid position valve?

You can fool the HW to stay on by turning up the cylinderstat. This will make the hot water very hot though.

It sounds as if your wiring is wrong and you might have a fault in your controls or just the three port valve. You may be able to set it manually in the centre position.

Thanks Tony and Matt. The boiler, controller and room stat were all replaced in the summer of 2007. The boiler is not a combi, in order to get the heating to operate I run the HW to empty the tank.

It is possible that the system has not worked properly since it was put in as I do not think we had much cold weather last year and with 4 adults in the house we use a lot of HW so we may not have noticed the problem until we had the cold weather a feews weeks back. The fact that the CH does heat up (with the HW) implies to me that the valve works. Its all very confusing!
