Hi, I got home this evening and noticed no heating. looked at the boiler (powermax 140 combi) and the burner had locked out.

Having reset it the burner lit but still no heating! Tried turning on the hot tap and no problems there.

Had a quick look at the boiler and removed the centre screw from the pump which was cold. after a short while water started to flow out. relaced the sealed screw and turned on the boiler again. It relit and i now have heating.

My question is do you think the pump is on its way out?

From your description you had air in the pump and/or system.

Is your system protected from corrosion with a chemical inhibitor?

It seems that you're incapable of ignoring me, so henceforth I shall ignore you.

However, please have the good grace not to interfere with the topics of people who don't know you, or me, and who are simply looking for advice.

Hi Softus,

I do believe there is some inhibitor in the system as there is an empty bottle on the expansion tank in the loft.

I seems to be working at the minute. Thanks for you quick reply

Fail to see how that reply was in any way cocky so whats ur problem.
bab, I upset selfbuildy on another topic, then suggested that he just ignore me, but he got p*ssed at the placement of a comment from a moderator, so he pursued me here to have a go.

Cool mate C the picture. Thought giving help to stangers in personal time was a bit sad, following them's gota take it to a deeper level.

Yr welcome. One more thing though: if you have bled any air from your system, then you should check its pressure. The normal setting is 1.0 bar when cold, but the user manual should tell you this. There will be an upper limit on the pressure gauge, and must not pressurise beyond this. If you do, then just bleed some water out of one of the rad vents.

Softus,

I have looked as suggested and there is no pressure gauge any where to be seen. Having read the handbook it seems that it is not a sealed system.

Having got up this morning it seems to be working ok still :D

Thanks again for your help

Yup - that was foolish of me - I didn't read your previous post properly (expansion tank in loft).

In which case, you should check that there's plenty of water in the expansion tank (proper name = feed and expansion cistern) and that the float valve opertates.

Why would anyone install a combi and keep it open vented? even if allowed to do so my the MI's - what would be the point? Is there a pressure vessel on the system that is simply not doing anything? presumably not as there is no pressure guage

Anyone know?
