we have a kitchen appliance under warranty but when the repair man came he got a small electric shock off it.
he then plugged a testing tool into the kitchen sockets and said none of them were earthed.
how can this be and is it a difficult job?

Assuming the appliance guy was right (its not known for them to not understand the significance of the significance of what their instrument was telling them*)

...Then what needs to be done depends on what the actual fault is, best bet would be to get an electrician in to fins the fault and hopefully fix it (though he might need the assisatnce of the DNO as the fault might be external to your installation)

You could post pictures of your fuseboard, meter and cutout area on here, and we might be able to give you some clues, but ideally you need someone on site to fix this

*heard of them flagging a fault when a socket and see vague loop tester says in the range 10-100ohm, and the supply isa correctly installed TT system...

has anyone checked to see if you have an earth anywere in the house ??it could be as simple as the earth has broken off in the sockets if you have a meter you could start by checking for continuity on the earth

I would also suggest getting this fixed now and unplug your appliances until you get to the bottom of it. Electrical appliances that use water and have no earth could kill someone.
