No Earth

I have been to my partners house to change her bathroom light fitting.

The one she has bought has a metal back but there are only 2 wires at the light with the earth wire missing so I have not fitted it as I believe it will need an earth wire.

Am I right in thinking that the wiring will have to be changed to twin and earth to fit a metal fitting?

Is that an indication of the rest of the wiring on the lighting circuit?
If so then it's time for a rewire - until then make sure the only class 2 accessories are fitted.

Is class 2 Double insulated?

I will ask a sparky to come and check if it needs a rewire.

Is class 2 Double insulated?

Yes, if your fitting is double insulated (there should be a sign like 2 squares, one inside the other.) If it is you are OK to fit.
