I have an Ideal C28 combi boiler.

Recently there has been an intermittent no flame problem. Everything else sounds like it is working but no flame.

I have also noticed that the pressure goes from very low to very high. I have tried letting some water off with no help then topping up with no help.

When I do get it going it is by switching it on and off several times with fingers crossed (sometimes works and sometimes doesn't).

An engineer couldn't find an obvious problem but it was working ok when he was round.

Any ideas?

I'm no expert on combis so I might be about to talk rubbish but --

This suggests that you don't have enough air in the expansion chamber.

This may or may not be related to the lighting problem. We have a combi in our caravan and I know it won't light if the water pressure is too low.
