We're looking at making a fence with horizontal 6x1 treated slats. If the slats are in contact with eachother (as in the photo) will this make them more likely to rot?
Or would we be better spacing them at say 10mm?
Makes sense. Just seems a shame to end up spoiling the simplicity of the finish with vertical supports though. If the slats are cedar are they really going to rot? Mind you, the batons will help to reduce bowing.
I would think that fitting boards horizontal wasn't ideal anyway , in effect the top edge of each board gets wetter the lower you go and a gap makes it easier to climb over.
