I have no heating but hot water is ok. if i turn the hot water on then i get some heat to two of the upstairs radiators only. i have had british gas round twice and they keep saying it's the pump but no pump can be found. they have now suggested lifting all the floorboards to find this pump. Is this really necessary

yes it is necessary, because you 100% DO have a pump, and if its faulty

it will have to be repaired/replaced no matter where its located

thanks. any idea which room i should start lifting the floorboards, ie is it likely to be near the boiler or the hot water cyninder

honestly it could be anywhere, i would start around the cylinder

you could also follow any cables that come out of the boiler or programmer and see where they go

I suppose there is a tiny chance you have gravity circulation sytem, especially if it is over 50 years old.
