Hi

After reading the previous postings etc - I've come to the conclusion that the motorised valve is broke (Honeywell 4073)

With the CH 'on', there's 240v on the grey and white wires but the valve doesn't move - no 240v on orange. If I manually move the lever right across the pump and boiler kicks in - I've been running the heating like this for a couple of days - is that ok?

Someone mentioned a 'pimple' - is this on the front of the cover just below the screw slot? - If so can I remove the casing from the brass fitting without flooding the airing cupboard, as there's about 4inch clearance in there!

Thanks for your time and advice in advance.

You got it

Motors can be changed easier than powerhead & are a lot cheaper too but recently i have had a few which were too weak to move valve correctly

just had the exact same problem, but a replacement motor didn't do anything, so I've got to try a complete replacement head.

It's just as easy to replace the whole head as it is to replace the motor, if not easier.

I had to buy the whole unit though as the whole unit was cheaper than the head! I got a complete Honeywell 4073A for £35 delivered - just got to wait for it to arrive.

I had the same voltages etc the only other one I tested was the wire to the motor (inside the metal case) I was only getting 70V there which I presume is too low??

to get inside the 4073 just take the one screw off the back and lift the top off, then to remove the head just undo the two screws (opposite corners) once undo you can just lift the head off - I had to play about with lever to get it to release it. Once removed you will see 1 screw holding the motor in. The Replacement Motor I got was £7.95 but as I said it made no difference. It might be worth measuring the Voltage to the motor if you are able to.

ive had a pimple for more than 20 yrs.. and its getting bigger... should i get rid of my tanning bed!?

Someody pointed out something to me, the other day, that I'd been too dopey to notice for years. If I wasn't so dopey I'd remember what it was. :(

i am ashamed but never noticed it
Shame wasn't my intention cm - I guess you've never tried to change the powerhead on a pre-1986 Honeywell MZV though? :D

Well my replacement Y-Valve arrived and replacing the head worked perfectly - so it's not always the motor that goes in my case it was the little circuit board

Here's an idea - scour the forum for any problem related to the same valve, and tell everyone that you've changed your powerhead.

change the complete valve, then forget about for a few years, dont forget to add inhibitor.
