Last night I had the heating on when the house was thrown into darkness. Having checked it was only me I reset the main CB and power was restored but the CH was off. I went up to the controller which was not showing any lights with no response from the manual override. I checked the fuse in the controller isolator switch which was found to be blown and was replaced. The manual CH override now lit up but nothing happened, I did the same to the HW and the pump and boiler immediately came on. Repeated action with CH controller lit up nothing. Checked 3 way valve and this is the question watching the valve motor when I press the CH manual override although the pump doesn't start the motor in the 3 way does move the valve to CH position and isn't dead as other diagnosis would find. Although I can't see any electrical charring around the valve there was an electrical smell in the area it's in. Do I presume that the controller is purely a switch and ok and that a part of the 3 way valve circuitry such as a diode has failed. Probably answered my own question but if confirmed is a new valve the answer. The valve is a Landis and Staefa supplied by Wickes many years ago.
