A week ago, our Main Combi Eco 30 started delivering hot water to the radiators only. Nothing at the taps - the boiler fired up ok but sent the water to the rads instead. Diverter valve, I guessed and sure enough, when in rang a plumber, he didn’t even come and look. “Diverter valve mate, no question”. He’s pencilled in for the end of the month as he’s booked up till then.
Now, after a week of not using the hot water or the heating, the hot taps have started working again! The water seems a bit hotter than it used to be (the boiler display was showing 82) but it’s working and not sending it to the rads (although the rads are working). Could the valve just have had a bit of debris in it, jamming the mechanism? Or will it fail again?
I’m wondering now whether I need the plumber? I’m aware he may have ordered the parts although it’s still a week away. I don’t want to pis him off. But on the other hand i could really do with not spending nearly £400 right now, on something that isn’t a problem.

Not a heating engineer but. Ours failed again within 12 months after just replacing the seals. I would suggest getting it done now and replace the whole valve if you have someone booked. Ours is an Ideal so not sure if they are the same as yours as far as the diverter is concerned.

Yes it will need doing/looking at. It could be the motor, diverter valve itself or both.
