No hot water

Got a Halstead Quattro combi boiler that heats the radiators just fine , but the hot water has given up the ghost.

when the heating has been on for a while hot water will come out of the taps for a short period then it turns cold.....when the heating is off , and i turn the hot water tap on the boiler does not fire up.

i am on the verge of replacing the boiler completly, but because i have no hot water was wondering what was causing this and is it worth repairing in the short term.
