Hi

I'm renovating my bathroom. I've started by removing the wall tiles. This has damaged the plasterboard so I'll have to replace that.

I need to remove the existing bath (will be replaced with new anyway) so that I can remove and replace the plasterboard. Every other bathroom appliance has an isolating valve except for the bath so I'll need to fit one to avoid having the water turned off for the number of weeks it will take me to complete the job.

I've purchased some pipe cutters and valves. Is it as simple as turning off the water at the mains, removing a section of pipe the length of the valves, insert the valves and tighten the compression joints?

Here is a picture - the pipes furthest away will be tricky to access but with the water off I should be able to take my time.

Also, is it possible to purchase 'blanking' caps for the waste pipe to reduce foul air once the bath is removed?

Cheers

Depends on whether you are on mains pressure supplies or not.

Take a look in your loft and if you see a large water cistern then you are not and this will have to be drained before you cut into any pipe work. Before you do any cutting, ensure that all taps are opened at the lowest point in the house.

As to your waste, just stuff some paper down there like everyone else.

Yes, nip down to Tesco's & buy 4 cans of larger, then put the plastic bag they came in over the end of the pipe.
