Just spent all weekend at a friends house who has no hot water.
The central heating works fine and all radiators are hot.
He called out a plumber who charged him but was too busy to fix it. This plumber said the diverter valve needed changing so my friend bought a new one £40 and I fitted it for him. The valve taken out appeared to be working just as well as the one I fitted but still no hot water.
I suspected some sort of air lock as when you operated the new valve the hot water flowed down the pipe into the entry point on the boiler however it did not pass through the coil and come out the other end. I called another plumber who said air lock stick a hose pipe on it but I don't know where to stick it!
The boiler is a backboiler behind the fireplace and whilst I could not see a make it does appear fairly modern.
He has also called another plumber who did not want to come out who said the coil is probably blocked take out the cylinder and run a hose pipe through it. I am happy to do this if thats what it takes but I am getting confusing mesages. I have only done basic plumbing at collage and I do wonder if this job is either too small or too difficult for local heating engineers to bother about. Please help with any advice possible.

try turning the bypas off (if you have one) and put thye pump on max (speed 3) Switch hot water on and see if that makes any difference, if not then drain some water from the coil by loosening off the bottom brass connector

is the 3 port valve moving when the HW/CH is switched on? are both sides of the valve getting warm? A=arses (rads) B= baths (water)
