Hmm not sure, got me thinking I will test all the ceiling wiring just to double check. Loop is live, switched wire is dead, I have a multimeter for testing Cheers

You are still missing the point....

A meter with two probes, needs one of the probes connected to a known reference point. The reference point could be the earth, if the earth is known to be good, or a neutral.

The second probe tip, goes to the point or terminal you are testing the voltage of.
