I still recommend you go to meet them!
They may be able to avoid flushing during the night.
A property should not have a macerator as the only toilet.
In an extreme situation you could complain to the EHO.

Having suffered a neighbour problem I can tell you that your local hearing aid centre will knock you up a nice set of moulded plugs in a choice of natty colours.
Would still recommend a friendly visit - what have you got to lose? Never know, they may also be fed up with the noise waking them in the night. They may just not know how to resolve the problem.
