My boiler bangs when on, worse when starting up.... I'm thinking of using boiler silencer in the F & E. IS this any good?

The pump's ok, set on speed setting 2 but tried on 3 and still same. The boiler has no overheatstat, and flame pic is good. I'm thinking as it's an old boiler (20+ years) it's a scaled/sludged heat exchanger. It works fine, on hw and htg. Have a grundfos pump with 3 port mid position valve (Honeywell) - all is ok, just a bit noisy and sounds louder when tv is off!!

Anyone used Fernox? Or any other dieas what the noise could possibly be?

Fernox or Sentinel products will generally bring you short term relief of your noise problem, Cast Iron Gas Boilers are renowned for this kind of problem, power flushing can help as can boiler noise silencing chemicals but after a year or two the noises come back!! ;)
