I have a ceiling fan fitted in lounge, has developed a loud buzzing when running, if power switched off it continues to free wheel in complete silence.
Is their anything I can do, other than buy a new fan?

Possibly not. But try pressing against the motor casing when it is running and see if the buzzing stops. It could be you need to tighten a couple of screws. If it's a particulary loud buzzing then the motor's probably knackered. In which case buy a new fan.

Motor is above fan blades but if I push against light fitting in one direction it quietens.
