Recently had house roof re-tiled and now find the new membrane that was installed under the batons/tiles etc, flaps like crazy in strong wind making the house very noisy indeed.

Roofer is long gone, please tell me the tiles do not have to come off and that this problem can be cured within the roof space!

Regards
Sleepless In Settle!

Thanks alastairreed, what sort of insulation do you suggest, method of fixing etc??

Can the loose flaps not be stuck down?

Obviously i don't mean ALL laps, just those causing a nuisance?

Thanks noseall. You'll have to excuse me if I sound thick, but I'm not a roofer, just someone trying to eliminate the noise from a [probable] poor re-roof. There are, as such, no loose flaps, just overlapping layers of membrane. Whether the membrane should have been stretched before fixing, I know not.

Is your suggestion to stick the overlaps down? Should adhesive be used on membrane, if so what kind?

I'm also new to this forum business, so if my attempt to upload some images fails, please excuse me

Images should be in Noisy Roof album via my profile.

Sorry for not responding sooner, have not been a well person. Before trying the duck tape suggestion, I thought I should point out that the ridge tiles [not a standard apex but unsure of correct term so have uploaded a picture to Noisy Roof picture album via my profile] are dry fix.

Anyone aware if dry fix is known to be less than wind proof? [The plastic trays on the ridges do not seem very flush on Roman Double tiles]. Would wet fix, or at least a mortar edging to existing fit, be a solution?

Last nights weather was a nightmare to the point of having to move downstairs to try and sleep, so I must get this problem sorted. If I have to call someone in to assess & fix, who is most likely to know the answers [I am loathe to ever trust another roofer again!!!!]

NOT FULLY CURED BUT REDUCED SLIGHTLY!!!!

Tried duck tape, not much joy, particularly as tape started peeling off in places after all my hard work and contortionism!

Have since stretched & stapled membrane to all battens and had loft insulation installed to recommended depth. Still noisy in high winds but not as bad in lesser wind speeds. Just have to learn to live with it [or move!!]
