I have a problem with my toilet as every time I flush it the system makes a loud noise as it re-fills. This din lasts for about 45 seconds and is really annoying, but not just for me, also for the people who share the block of flats.

I had a plumber look at it about three months ago and after he worked at it, it seemed to clear up for a week but the noise since returned. He suggested that if it came back I might need to change the ballcock.

The only thing that reduces the noise is if I turn down the pressure of the cold water coming into the flat but when I do this the shower doesn't work very well.

Any ideas what the problem would be and how I could fix it please?

I had the exact same thing happen to me in my flat in Manchester. Probably still happens, but I've moved out :)

If I held the ball cock down after flushing, it didn't make the noise, if I remember correctly. It was only when it was asking for a slower trickle, after filling up most of the way, that the noise happened.

Sounds like you have a Part 2 valve on mains pressure. Get it changed to an equilibrium valve (use a genuine Opella Torbeck with a silencer tube)

ditoo ditto ditto last 2 posts £12 at b&Q. just make sure that you put the correct flow rtegulator in. All instructions included in packaging. only and adjustable spanner needed and a 5mm stubby screwdriver if your loo has a service valve... you can put the kettle on and have a brew when ya'v finished 10 minute job. :D
