I live in a purpose built ground floor maisonette and the toilet in the upstairs flat is positioned right in the central point of the flat on 2 internal stud walls and the soil pipe comes down vertically right through the centre of my flat on my bedroom wall. I can not only hear the couple upstairs using and flushing the loo in full stereo surround sound but also the contents of the pan rushing noisily down the pipe. This is driving me MAD especially in the middle of the night. In the daytime it can be heard anywhere in my flat. There appears to be some sort of lagging inside the plaster board in front of the pipe but it doesn't mask the noise. Has anyone got any ideas to reduce or eliminate the noise? Thanks! Sue

Rockwool slabs are a good insulator and I think you can get them in a heavy grade acoustic version.....the boxing would need to be made bigger round the pipe and increased insulation

I Sympathise with this problem :( . The insulation you need is against sound, not heat/cold. Suitable materials are not the same - don't confuse the two types of insulation. Sound insulators are generally dense (like plasterboard). Best to get some specialist advice.
