Hi

I can't see the difference between tapered / square edge board... why can't I use square edge and just joint fill and then paint...i.e. not skim it ?

Is this OK?

Thanks

Because square edge are butted together, so when you start to fill it, there is not enough room/space to actually put filler in, so there is nothing to hold it

secondly, tapered leaves enough room to make the transition between one board and the other. so when the boards are not completely level to each other- taped edge will compensate for that
