Not quite watertight

Not really a DIY disaster but a bit of an interesting find whilst digging a trench out in the garden:

Been like this for at least 20 years, upstream of the plastic is the guttering coming off the roof, downstream of the clay is sewerage...understandable now why the faint whiff of sh*t every now and then but not clear why the house hasn't fallen down as it's only 6ft from the front wall and surely can't be up to standard for a soakaway lol

Oh that's a dead easy fix, just find a really strong plastic bag and gaffa tape it on.
