I thought he'd died long ago because he was so rarely mentioned, good to see he cracked on to a good old age. As you say his shows were top notch.

As with many great comedians, it's tragic to read he led a pretty miserable life. However in a (cruel) way, that's often what gives them the fuel to be a great comedian.
