Selected fifth overall by flinty Chicago owner George Halas in the 1961 draft, Ditka went on to Rookie of the Year honors, multiple Pro Bowl trips and the 1963 NFL championship. He left Chicago in 1966, playing briefly for Philadelphia and Dallas. He moved to the sideline in 1973 as an assistant to the revered Tom Landry and stayed with the Cowboys for eight seasons, before returning to a hero’s welcome in Chicago as head coach in 1982 where he stayed for 10 tumultuous years, including five straight NFC Central titles, the Super Bowl win, a DUI conviction, a heart attack, a long-running feud with defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan and a new nickname – “Da Coach.”

Also known as brown bread Fred, doubtless his healthy eating contributed to his long life.

I see my GP customer Friday who was the GP for the head Copper that put the Grays away. And his wife who was his Driver.

She had plenty of stories fir another day but did say. Once the Krays had gone it opened the door to the Yardies and more petty gangsters.

And thst the Grays kept the streets under control in their way.

They say it was safe to leave your front door unlocked in the east end back in the 60's. The reputation of the old gangsters is just that, their empires were taken over long ago.
