NTL have cable-tied an incoming cable to the lagged external gas pipe, along the section before it enters the building (a flat).

Is there any regulation against this?

And either way, is there anything unsafe about it?

I would think it depends whether it is classed as a current carrying cable, the if so would need the minimum of 25mm, but ideally 50mm space as in regs.

At te least I think it is just shoddy practice.

You must be oop North. We don't need to lag gas pipes down my way.

Nope; this is Home Counties - way daaaahn saaaaaaaahf.

Thanks for the replies. If the NTL cable includes the telephone line then it's more than just data. Mebbee I'll grass them up and see what happens...

well speakin as a sarfener meself (gawd blimey mary pooopins apples and pears etc)

the lagging is probably denzo type wrap the the old gas lines darn our way are wrapped in and has been said the cable shouldnt be clipped to it

NCS at most thou

Similar to Denzo, but appears to be less gloopy.

NCS? :?

Ridor NTL that'll stop em.

for what??

they have not used an inappropriate fitting?? nor worked in a way likly to cause damage/harm?

whats your thinking here mate?

You're all wrong. Corgi manual suggests 25/50mm clearance only applies if the gas pipe is uninsulated. No clearance appears to be required if gas pipe is wrapped in insulation, as in this case.
