Bit late to the game - but wouldn't it have been easier to start with a solid 22mm peice of bar (about 2cm long) drill and tap the centre then drill a series of 1-2mm holes just in from the circumference. Mount this in a 22mm compression fitting and connect to 22mm pipe (or whatever the water source is).
