Our builder has 'finished' our new untreated oak sold floor in our kitchen/diner and hall area with Liberon oil. He said he applied 3 coats. However our floor is not at all waterproof and looks very patchy. I understand that no wooden floors can be completely waterproof, but this appears to offer no protection to splashes at all. Any tiny drop of water has left a mark, and on a wet day footprints have marked the wood too (though feet were wiped on mat there must have still been some moisture on bottom of shoes).

Is this usual?

Can anyone verify the quality (or not) of Liberon oil? Would another product be better? I have read on these forums about hardwax oil - would this be better? If so can it be applied on top of this Liberon? What brand would be recommended?

Help! What can I do to get rid of the marks and restore my floor?
