Oak skirting boards - white

I am about to tackle the decoration in my house, and i currently have oak/oak effect skirting and doors. I am not a big fan of oak skirting, and want to paint them white.

My end product will be greyish walls and white skirting boards.

has anyone do this before?

What procedure is best and what products to achieve a good finish?

So do you want a sort of "white-washed" oak finish?

real oak skirting or foil wrapped?

if real, they can be painted, but you might find the grain will telegraph through the paint somewhat.
