oak varnishing?

we have an oak cabinet which was in the bathroom. moving it we notice it has suffered some water damage and I wish to sand and re-varnish

What varnish does the manufacturers use ?/

A mass produced item will likely be a synthetic lacquer.
Either precatalysed or acid-catalysed.
Usually sprayed on and subject to the COSHH regulations.

Hi and a big thanks sorry for late replay serious PC issues..... What would you recommend I use to get a similar effect?

I'd try an aerosol lacquer. I think B&Q might do them.
