I'm really clutching at straws.
It actually came in a tool box of bits and bobs(mechanics).
I also though it was a clutch alighning tool, but can't see why there needs to be so much material on it to do such a simple job?.
That's for bolting the very heavy steel/granite surface or measurement table to the floor.Tthis is the kind of thing I meant. Some of these are bolted to the floor and have to be very level as they are used in industries like aviation & defence etc for setting up equipment.The device has a nylon sleeved expander at one end, so it is a bit more than an adjustable table leg.
