Oil Boiler, Burner transformer leaking melting plastic and fuse blows

Its looking like this is the cause of the problem (completely missed the melted mass of plastic underneath the burner until my better half spotted it!)

Won't fire now, just blowing fuses every time motor is called.

So is this is terminal case i.e. replace the burner (if it is I may as well replace the whole boiler, it looks ancient - I inherited it when I moved in) or can transformers be sourced individually - not sure why it melted though.

Will attempt to find OFTEC engineer Monday, if I can :LOL:
 
Can a replacement transformer be sourced ?

That depends on whether it is a transformer that was designed specifically for that boiler or a fairly standard transformer. A picture would help.

Transformers overheat and fail due to an overload ( unlikely if there are no other faults in the heating system ) or internal failure of insulation on the wires in the coils of the transformer. ( old age )
